Join the Paducah Singers as we open our 7th season with "LAUDE! Songs of Praise." This concert will feature songs of praise in a variety of styles and time periods - from 16th c. indigenous Mayan composer Tomás Pascual to Renaissance master William Byrd to Baroque composer Heinrich Schütz. Contemporary compositions by Ivo Antognini, Javier Busto, and Kestutis Daugirdas will also be featured.
The culminating piece of the concert is "Sacred Place" by American composer Alex Berko for choir, piano, violin, and cello. Berko describes the work as "an ecological service that connects the old with the new, the sacred with the secular, and the individual with their community. [It] is at times a meditation and at times an impassioned prayer for the world we inhabit and share." This piece was premiered by professional choral ensemble Conspirare in March 2023 and recorded on their new album "House of Belonging" released on September 8th. Alex is currently one of the resident composers for the Louisville Orchestra Creator Corps. This is a year-long residency with the LO where Alex will live in Louisville, collaborate with the orchestra on several new works and participate in community engagement programming.
The Paducah Singers will be joined by members of the Paducah Symphony Orchestra string section.
The concert is FREE and open to the public.
